Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit

LAS VEGAS & BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–April 3, 2006–Xythos Software, the leading developer of essential document and file management software, and Softricity(R), the on-demand software virtualization company, today announced they will join each other’s certified technology programs as part of a solution to deliver web-enabled content management and collaboration with application virtualization and on-demand streaming. The first proof of this is the “Northeastern on Demand” initiative which will, over time, serve more than 50,000 administrators, faculty and students.

Today, organizations are challenged to keep up with the rapid expansion of digital content — capturing, managing, storing and sharing documents over the Internet — while trying to keep application management costs down. Northeastern University , for example, serves a diverse user base that must be able to collaborate, share documents and access applications on demand. Their new web initiative, “Northeastern on Demand,” will utilize Xythos WebFile Server and the Softricity Desktop(TM) to deliver the benefits of web-based storage and collaboration coupled with dynamic application delivery through a secure enterprise portal environment to its users.

“The technology provided by Softricity and Xythos allows us to do new — and better — things on campus. While I appreciate the value of both offerings, I appreciate them even more when you combine them together. The partnership of these two companies will enable Northeastern to do things both on and off campus that we could not have considered a year or two ago — allowing us to deliver a personalized campus computing experience for 50,000 users, any where and any time,” said Bob Weir, vice president of Information Services at Northeastern University.

“Among the challenges facing today’s dynamic organizations is the need to organize, manage and deliver access to applications and data wherever and whenever they are needed,” stated Ed Miller, CEO of Xythos. “The combination of technologies from Softricity and Xythos helps address these challenges, enabling applications to be dynamically delivered and permitting their outputs to be more easily accessed and shared. The flexibility and potential cost savings resulting from this combination can be significant.”

David Greschler, vice president of corporate marketing and co-founder, Softricity, commented: “Enabling customers to build solutions that allow end users to have both applications and data in one place is a goal of both of Xythos and Softricity. We free applications and data to travel to wherever a user is — a desktop in the sky — while Xythos provides a complementary solution for document and content management that acts as a virtual ‘C drive in the sky.’ Our customers will benefit from the combination of this application and storage virtualization solution.”
