Yesterday, Western Digital Corporation (WDC) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced an all-flash Hyper-converged SQL Server 2016 solution based on HPE ProLiant DL rack servers and VMware Virtual SAN 6.2. The solution was showcased at HPE Discover 2016 in both the HPE and SanDisk booths (SanDisk was acquired by Western Digital in May 2016).
By leveraging WDC’s flash technology and combining them with Virtual SAN 6.2’s deduplication and compression, and erasure coding features, the solution will enable customers to achieve the highest levels of efficiencies and data protection, while at the same time reducing capital and operational costs.
Here at VMware, we have a seen an overwhelming number of customers adopting Virtual SAN to not only run VDI workloads, but also run business and mission critical workloads. This recent addition to HPE’s portfolio only goes to validate those observations.
