VMware vRealize Operations: Beyond the Marketing
I must admit, vRealize Operations (formerly vCOps) is one of my favorite VMware solutions. However when talking about vRealize Operations, while I was able to speak about the many benefits including capacity planning, root-cause analysis and basic health of your VMware vSphere environment, I always had trouble convincing my customers why they need vRealize Operations. RoundTower Technologies is currently looking for customers who are looking for a vSphere Optimization Assessment. As part of that assessment, vRealize Operations is installed. I then wait 30 days for vRealize Operations to collect and analyze data and then I return to discuss the assessment details with the customer.
Recently, I was performing an assessment for a customer who had a relatively small environment, 3 ESXi hosts and 20 virtual machines. They are well over-provisioned therefore showing the customer the capacity planning ability within vRealize Operations would be of no value. I hit upon each of the objects that was yellow, orange or red. Most of the yellow, orange or red that was showing up in the environment was non-impactful.
