VMware UEM and Windows 10: Watch Sanjay Poonen’s VMworld Keynote Here

“The first industrial revolution was all about steam and mechanization. The second industrial revolution was about the early forms of mass production. The third industrial revolution was about electronics in the form of the computer. But the fourth revolution we think is going to be huge, because it’s going to influence every part of our lives.”

The fourth being the world going digital, that is. That’s how Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager of end-user computing at VMware, kicked off the general session at VMworld yesterday.

In case you missed it, watch the general session replay here.

But what really had the tech industry buzzing: unified endpoint management and Windows 10.

Check out our VMworld notes on the highlights from Sanjay’s keynote address:

  • Not all apps are web and mobile. Much of the world is still client-server, Windows-based. VMware Workspace ONE brings together the Apple-Google-Microsoft ecosystem.
  • End users want choice and simplicity. IT wants control and security. Workspace ONE eliminates the user-IT divide.
  • The Workspace ONE approach includes three pillars: 1) apps and identity (identity is the center of everything), 2) desktop and mobile and 3) management and security.
  • On the desktop side, VMware Horizon recently added hundreds of capabilities to tackle two things: cost and complexity.
  • For Windows 10, VMware aims to reduce costs by 15–30%, about $7,000 per endpoint per user, with unified endpoint management and security and lifecycle automation.
