VMware Jumps Into IDaaS Ring
VMware, constantly looking for ways to broaden its portfolio beyond server virtualization, has been expanding aggressively in the mobile and cloud spaces for several years now. That means, among other things, ramping up its security and identity offerings.
Looking to fill a key hole in those stacks, VMware this week became the latest major IT infrastructure player to launch a single sign-on (SSO) product. The new VMware Identity Manager joins a growing field of identity-as-a-service (IDaaS) solutions that provide SSO and a federated identity management system for managing access to applications hosted in the cloud or on-premises, and a range of mobile devices.
By adding VMware Identity Manager, the virtualization giant is challenging Microsoft, Salesforce.com, and a number of key providers of SSO identity management solutions including Okta, Centrify Ping Identity and numerous others.
