VMware and CollabNet Announce New Relationship to Deliver Virtual Appliances for the Cloud

Companies to Collaborate on Unified Development Environment for Creating Applications for Public and Private Clouds

VMWARE PARTNER EXCHANGE 2009 – Today at VMware Partner Exchange 2009, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) and CollabNet announced a new relationship that will deliver a unified development environment that enables independent software vendors (ISVs) and developers to create applications for deployment in public or private clouds. The combined solution is designed to provide developers and ISVs with increases in productivity and reductions in infrastructure cost when developing applications with distributed teams. This unified development environment, which provides the developer the ability to incorporate VMware Studio in CollabNet TeamForge, is available now and is among the first to provide distributed teams of application developers with an on-ramp to public and private cloud production environments. VMware Studio is an authoring and management tool that enables software providers and developers to build customized virtual appliances that can be shipped in industry standard Open Virtualization Format (OVF). A short video demonstration of the solution is available at http://download3.vmware.com/media/vam/studio2ctf/VideoDemo4.html.
The combined solution will provide an end-to end solution and can be used by global teams at each stage of the application lifecycle. ISVs and developers can code, build, and test applications with CollabNet TeamForge, deliver them as virtual appliances with VMware Studio, and distribute them through the VMware Virtual Appliance Marketplace at http://www.vmware.com/appliances. These appliances can then easily be managed on-site via VMware Update Manager.
"We are excited to work with CollabNet, a leader in distributed application lifecycle management, to help enable and accelerate the development of applications for internal and external clouds," said Dan Chu, vice president, emerging products and markets, VMware. "We’re focused on enabling enterprises, ISVs, and developers to take their existing and new applications to the cloud in an evolutionary way."
"Our relationship with VMware meets the needs of application developers seeking to leverage the emerging trend of cloud deployment for cost reduction and other benefits," said Bill Portelli, president and chief executive officer, CollabNet. "The VMware and CollabNet solution solves the application creation-to-production handoff dilemma. This combination delivers significant productivity and cost savings and provides an on-ramp to public and private cloud production environments."
