VMTurbo 5.6 Enhances IBM’s PowerVM Management
With the release of VMTurbo Operations Manager 5.6, VMTurbo’s IBM PowerVM management capabilities saw an update. This update relates to the way VMTurbo pulls in memory metrics on the LPARs.
Previously, we have had the capabilities to see what the vMemory allocation was for LPARs. This was done by querying the Hardware Management Console (HMC) and the VIO Servers. The memory consumption for these helped VMTurbo perform desirable decisions based around their performance needs. For the non-VIOS-based LPARs, however, we didn’t have a full grasp on the exact consumption value. With the 5.6 release came the ability to query individual LPARs at the OS level. This means we can see individual LPAR memory consumption by way of SNMP queries. All you have to do is enable SNMP on your LPARs.
