Virtualization for Mobile Workers: VDI Race Heats Up
The virtual desktop race is on with VDIworks, VMware, and others trying to provide a disconnected VDI experience to the mobile workforce.
Austin-based VDIworks, a virtual desktop provider that was spun off from ClearCube back in May of this year, announced an add-on to its connection broker so that VDI users can leverage a virtual desktop even when disconnected from the corporate network.
One of the big drawbacks to the standard VDI architecture has been the lack of support for a disconnected mobile user. As virtual desktop solutions continue to be evaluated by companies, connectivity remains one of those hurdles that need to be solved in order to foster wider implementations of the technology. And vendors understand this pain point.
