RES Software Blog: Notes from the Road 22 – The End is Near!!
Well, the Mayans were wrong about 2012. But now Citrix says it’s the End of Life in 2013. Are you ready?
I have been giving the above a lot of thought as of late. It is not unusual for a software vendor to announce a hard deadline for the end of life for a product, and Citrix is no different. On March 31, 2013 Citrix will officially declare the “End of Life” for Presentation Server 4.5. What does this mean to the IT professional? No more service packs, hotfixes or even the usual support. That’s it. Kaput. Fine. Use at your own risk. Does that impact you? It should— big time. It is like driving a Ford Pinto on the highway today. The only difference is, if this Pinto crashes and burns, your entire organization loses buckets of money and the only one to blame is you.
But what does this mean to your users?? Hopefully nothing. Hopefully they will notice nary a blip on their daily routine. You see, monumental changes like this should only benefit the user community. And with the right planning and preparation, you too can ensure a smooth transition to XenApp 6.5 that will actually please your users. And isn’t that what we all strive for? Happy users.
