RE: VMware tools - hgfs not needed in hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\networkprovider\order key

hgfs.dat is only for shared folders! in Citrix VM's there is no need for this - just simply do not install shared folders when installing vmware tools and there will be no need to delete the value as it will not exist!

VMware tools - hgfs not needed in hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\networkprovider\order key

Just and FYI:

9-8-2004            Issue logging off VMware server.  User environment error.

Text version of message:            User Environment
Windows cannot copy file c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\application data\Vmware\hgfs.dat to location \\s1cinohhqprof01\termserv\<username>\ProfileWIN2K3SRVThin\Application Data\Vmware\hgfs.dat.  Possible causes of this error include network problems or ….
Cure:    9-19-2005          Appears the loading of Vmware tools on a Windows 2003 server build adds ‘hgfs’ to the hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\networkprovider\order key.
Created a script to remove the entry during a server build process.
 Kix command line:         shell"%systemroot%\system32\cscript.exe \\S1CINOHHQFILE10\ddp\Techserv\Metaframe\Build\BuildW2K3\Scripts\RemoveHGFSfromProviderOrder.vbs
 Script contents:
'9-16-2005 This script will remove hgfs entry from hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\networkprovider\order
'          VMWare shared folders is not supported.
'                       The loading of VMTools places this entry in the registry.
