New VMware MDM Migration Tool Automates Transition from Legacy Vendors to AirWatch EMM

Migrating from legacy mobile device management (MDM) to enterprise mobility management (EMM) is a painful process. Often that pain blocks IT from moving to a desired, next-gen EMM platform. To help IT get the EMM tools they need without the hassle, VMware today announced a new automated MDM migration tool and professional services.

VMware’s innovative and easy-to-use migration tool and services pave the way for legacy MDM customers to easily migrate to VMware AirWatch EMM—with minimal burden on IT and no pain for your end users.

2 Major Hurdles for EMM Migration

There are two central issues with EMM migration projects:

1. Getting the device and user data out of the legacy system into the new platform.

Most EMM solutions have data export, but manipulating and cleaning the data for easy import into the new solution can be problematic. This data is critical to ensuring all users and devices are properly unenrolled and re-enrolled with minimal disruption to users’ mobile services.

2. Un-enrolling legacy MDM profiles and enrolling into the new EMM platform.

Typically, the MDM un-enrollment to EMM enrollment is a manual process for the end user. They must:

  • Launch the legacy MDM app.
  • Manually un-enroll.
  • Downloading the new platform’s app.
  • Launch the new app.
  • Accept the enrollment prompts.
