ROV Calculator Finds Softricity Customer Northeastern University Slashed Annual Application Management Costs by Over 80 Percent

BOSTON —March 13, 2006–Softricity, the on-demand software virtualization company, today announced the availability of its new Return on Virtualization(TM) (ROV) Calculator, a Forrester Total Economic Impact(TM) (TEI)-compliant tool that details the cost savings and business value possible with the Softricity Desktop, the premier platform for enterprise application virtualization.

Softricity commissioned Forrester Consulting to help create the ROV Calculator and to ensure that it meets the Forrester TEI(TM) fundamentals and principles of a sound business case tool. The ROV Calculator guides enterprises through a comprehensive questionnaire regarding their business and technology environment to create an analysis of the tangible impact the Softricity Desktop can have on their operations.

Softricity, which has more than 500 customers worldwide, has been providing software virtualization solutions for more than five years. The Softricity ROV Calculator shows exactly how Softricity’s application virtualization and on-demand streaming affects an enterprise’s total application management. The guiding principle behind the ROV Calculator is that one must examine every step in the application management lifecycle–deployment, update, support and termination–in order to determine its true costs. The calculations are based on the time required to complete the tasks and the associated costs for IT staff, as well as the impact on end users who experience downtime during the various processes.

Softricity customer Northeastern University , which has 13,000 desktops and laptops running 800 applications, used the ROV Calculator to assess Softricity’s impact on their operations. Northeastern estimated:

— Annual application management costs reduction of 85%

— 3-year total savings of over $1.6 million

Softricity also announced a free webinar on the potential market and technology benefits of virtualization, featuring Forrester’s David Friedlander, senior analyst and virtualization expert. As part of this webinar, Softricity will showcase the ROV Calculator. To register for this webinar, taking place Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 12 noon ET, go to www.softricity.com/news/webinar-reg.asp?eventID=20060322-rov

“In the next five years, PC architecture will change dramatically as virtualization shifts from the periphery to the center stage and replaces the standard OS and application installs. Desktop virtualization offers significant benefits, including better security, manageability, and access to desktop applications in a distributed world,” writes David Friedlander, senior analyst, Forrester Research. “With Softricity–a pioneer in the application streaming market–applications are never installed on the host OS and virtualization prevents application conflicts. Additionally, updates are much easier to deploy and applications can be configured to expire at a specific time or based on other criteria, providing greater control over application access and making it easier to recover licenses.” (Desktop Virtualization is the Future of the Corporate PC, Forrester Research, Inc., January 2006)

“There is tremendous market interest in application virtualization and streaming. However, it is important to quantify the tangible benefits enterprises can achieve from these technologies,” said Art Matin, CEO, Softricity. “Our Forrester TEI-compliant Calculator lets customers rapidly and thoroughly evaluate the impact Softricity’s virtualization and on-demand streaming can have on their business. We’re thrilled to be able to offer this incredibly valuable tool.”
