Businesses today want flexibility, mobility and choices about how they stay connected and productive — probably the same things you want to help you run your own company. Virtualization technologies including virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) bring the office to you and your employees wherever you are and allow for bring-your-own-device programs that keep them on the handsets they want.

With those concepts in mind, technology giant Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) unveiled an addition to its Desktop Virtualization family, User Experience Virtualization (UE-V), and updated its flagship Application Virtualization 5.0 (App-V 5.0) offering. The public betas for both products are now available for download, and when fully completed, they will ship as part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. By implementing UE-V, IT departments can enable a consistent experience for users with multiple devices — those provided by their company and their own personal PC or tablet. Users can change the device they’re using and keep their experience without reconfiguring applications each time they log in to Windows 7 or Windows 8.
