| SpeedScreen Browser Accelerations goal is to provide Local Browser experience and performance in a MetaFrame XP session. It was designed to give major performance improvements for users connecting to applications that embed JPEG and GIF images within web pages while reducing bandwidth usage and increasing user responsiveness when using Internet Explorer running on a MetaFrame XP server. SpeedScreen Brower Acceleration works by separating the JPEG and GIF image from the standard display (thinwire) virtual channel (VC) and redirecting them through their own VC. The following published applications are supported by SpeedScreen Brower Acceleration: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and newer Microsoft Outlook XP/2002 SpeedScreen Brower Acceleration also requires the following: Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003. Activated XP FR3/SP3 License Published IE 5.5 or newer and Outlook 6 and above SpeedScreen Browser Acceleration enabled in the Management Console, as shown below. This can be configured on a farm and or per server basis. By default SpeedScreen Browser is enabled on all Feature Release 3 servers. Click OK when finished. On the SpeedScreen Browser Acceleration configuration page you find a screen that allows you to define if MetaFrame XP will allow or disable Macromedia Flash content. If you have plenty of bandwidth and CPU to spare then you can select the Allow button to enable Flash content in a MetaFrame XP session. If Flash is required I would recommend Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with Windows System Resource Manager or AppSense Performance Manager 2.0, both will allow you to throttle CPU utilization per application. Select Do not allow if you want graphical images to download promptly on slower connections. Users will be presented with a blank picture until the graphic is fully downloaded. The advantage of this feature is that the server CPU and memory resources are reduced thus leaving end-user with a better experience. |
