| Now that you have completed the Statement of Work, a project plan, infrastructure assessment, started to design a project plan and completed the proof of concept you come to the first of five checkpoints. A phase ending checkpoint allows you to take a step back to verify the project is on tract and it allows you to present the status of the project to the customer. In each checkpoint you will be required to present the phase documentation to the customer in a formal meeting. You will be required to assemble all the key players in the project, along with anyone who signs for and or approves funding to present the phase document which includes estimated times for completion and estimated cost. The Analysis Checkpoint document should contain the following sections: Preface Vision / Scope (Statement of Work) Infrastructure Assessment findings Proof of Concept assumptions and findings Statement of Work that defines scope, deliverables, estimated duration and costs for the design, Implementation, Readiness and Rollout phases. This being the first phase checkpoint it is the first time you will be presenting a checkpoint document to the customer. I highly recommend making this document as professional as possible. Print it in color and bind it into a book style deliverable. If needed take it to your local copy shop (i.e., Kinkos) have it bound in to a nice deliverable. The small dollars spent will go miles in setting the proper perceptions. This will go miles in setting the perception of professionalism by you and your organization. At this point, your customer can choose to continue with the project or bow out gracefully with the knowledge they have learned about their environment for use in a future deployments. If the customer chooses to bow out then you would have earned a few service dollars and a significant amount of additional knowledge and experience. You will have also left the customer and yourself with the knowledge that you are a consultant and not just a break/fix engineer. If the customer chooses to continue forward with the project then you will move to the Design phase. The following examples and templates are located in Methodology in a Box 3.0.
