1. Implementation Overview

Now that we have created a vision / scope, defined the project plan and developed a farm design we are ready to start building our MetaFrame XP environment.

By following your project plan, you will install and configure a scaled down version of the proposed MetaFrame XP farm. What I mean by this is that if you are planning for five MetaFrame XPe servers with NFuse as the enumeration vehicle, then you will only want to install two of the servers. You do this for the purpose of creating, modifying and testing the policies and procedures you will document for your MetaFrame servers.

Once you have documented the policies and procedures that achieve the projects vision, you will be ready to move to the rollout phase where you will rollout the rest of the servers and go live with the MetaFrame XP application farm.

During this phase, you might need to modify the project plan. This is called scope creep and if you allow additional items to be added without making a project / scope change then you run the risk of coming over budget and over time. Keeping with the goal of a successful project it is necessary for you to present the change to your customer and have them sign off on it.

Throughout the Implementation phase, you will need to document all installation policies and procedures used. You will then take the installation documentation and move on to the Readiness phase.

Over the following pages, you will find basic installation procedures for a typical small to medium size environment. I have formatted them in the flow that your project will take, one-step at a time.

The implementation phase is broken down into the following segments.
