19. Citrix Management Console (CMC)

Citrix Management Console can be installed on a local machine. 

Note:  CMC data is transmitted in scrambled text and not encrypted.  To prevent against a man in the middle attack publish the CMC on the Control Server.

19. 1.    How to Install the Citrix Management Console

The management interface for MetaFrame XP servers and server farms is the Citrix Management Console, an extensible Java-based tool that operates in the framework of IMA. The console communicates with MetaFrame XP servers and other IMA-based Citrix servers using the IMA protocol over TCP/IP.

Citrix Management Console and IMA allow management of MetaFrame XP servers and server farms from any location. Authorized administrators can run the console on any connected Windows NT or Windows 2000 workstation, in addition to MetaFrame XP server consoles.

To install the CMC on a workstation:

1.       Insert the MetaFrame XP CDROM and click the install MetaFrame XP Citrix Management Console icon

2.       The CMC is a Java applet and requires the Java Runtime Enviroment to be installed on the workstation.  During installation of the CMC setup checks to see if JRE is installed if not then setup will prompt you to install it.  Click OK to install if prompted.


3.       Citrix Management Console setup starts.  Click Next to begin

4.       Click Yes to accept the license agreement

5.       Accept the default location and click Next


6.       Accept the default program group folder name and click Next

7.       Citrix Management Console installation files are copied to the workstation.   Click Finish

You have no succesfully installed the Citrix Management Console to your workstation.

 


19. 2.    How to install the Resource Manager Plug-In on a Workstation

To administer the Resource Manager properties of a MetaFrame XP farm from a workstation, perform the following steps:

1.       Install Resource Manager on at least one MetaFrame XPe server.

2.       Install CMC using the installation procedures above.

3.       From the MetaFrame server on which you installed Resource Manager in Step 1, copy the following files to their corresponding locations on the workstation:

       %ProgramFiles%\Citrix\Administration\Plugins\ResourceManager.jar

       %ProgramFiles%\Citrix\Administration\Help\rms20.jar

       %ProgramFiles%\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3\lib\ext\base.jar

       %ProgramFiles%\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3\lib\ext\DataTransform.jar

       %ProgramFiles%\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3\lib\ext\Date.jar

       %ProgramFiles%\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3\lib\ext\line.ja

 

4.       Restart CMC on the workstation.

 

19. 3.    How to install the Installation Manger Plug-In on a Workstation

To administer the Installation Manager properties of a MetaFrame XP farm from a workstation, perform the following steps:

1.       Start the installation program from the Installation Manager CDROM.


2.        Click Next

3.       Select ONLY the Citrix Installation Manager Plug-in and Click Next.

4.       Click Finish.

 

19. 4.    How to install the Citrix Management Console Service Pack 1

MetaFrame XP Service Pack 1 / Feature Release 1 has a slew of CMC enhancements that are adding to the Citrix servers CMC to enhancement the administration feel of the product.   Citrix has released a separate CMC service pack so that you can add in the enhancements to a stand alone CMC installation. 

Note: If you install the IM or RM plug in any time after you install Service Pack 1 you will need to reinstall the Citrix Management Console Service Pack 1.

1.       Insert the Citrix MetaFrame XP Feature Release 1 CD and click on the Citrix Management Console

2.       Click Next


3.       Click Yes to accept the license agreement .

4.       Click Finish.
