1. Implementation Overview

Now that we have created a vision / scope, defined the project plan and developed a farm design we are now ready to start building our MetaFrame XP environment.

By following your project plan you will install and configure a scaled down version of the proposed MetaFrame XP farm.   What I mean by this is that if you are planning for five MetaFrame XPe servers with NFuse as the enumeration vehicle, then you will only want to install two of the servers.  You do this for the purpose of creating, modifying and testing the policies and procedures you will document for your MetaFrame servers.

Once you have documented the policies and procedures that achieve the documented vision you will follow, you will be ready to move to the rollout phase where you will rollout the rest of the servers and go live with you MetaFrame XP application farm.

During this phase you might need to modify the project plan, if this is necessary you will need to present the change to your customer and have them sign off on it.

As always, throughout the Implementation phase you will want to document any installation policies, procedures used, document objectives for a successful pilot (based on the vision) and the pilot results.   You will then need to call another meeting and present the installation procedures and findings of the tests in the form of formal document.  This document will also assist in your disaster recovery plan.

Over the following pages you will find basic installation procedures for a typical small to medium sized environment.  Ive have formatted them in the flow that both your project and implementation phase deliverable will take, one step at a time.

I have broken the implementation phase down into the following segments.

       Prepare the network environment

How to add user for a terminals services environment

3rd Party IMA data store installation instructions

       Install Operating System

       Install MetaFrame XP

Tweak Windows 2000 and MetaFrame XP

       Rapid Server Deployment

How to create a Zone and move MetaFrame servers to it

       ICA Client Update Configuration Utility

How to setup automatic reboot for MetaFrame servers

       Client Drive Mappings

       Install Applications

Publishing Applications through the Citrix Management Console (CMC)

How to build a stable printing environment

       NFuse Integration

How to install the Citrix Web Console

How to secure an Internet Information Services (IIS) server
