AppSense AM – Automate NTFS Ownership for the BUILTIN/Administrators Group

Document ID: SX123379

Overview:

Note: Changing the ownership of certain files might cause some applications to function improperly.

Ever needed to do some mass changes of files/folders NTFS ownership?

If you ever implemented AppSense Application Manager then the answer is probably yes.

One of the main features of AppSense AM is Trusted Ownership checking, which allows to perform ownership checking of the executable and allow it to run only when it is matched against a pre-defined owner list, The most secure and easy way to use this feature is to map the user’s needs and set the ownership of those files to the BUILTINAdministrators group (appearing by default in the Trusted Owners list)

In this article you will find a script which would help you to do just that.

How does the script work?

The script requires 2 parameters:

  • The Server list file – a text file containing a list of all relevant server names
  • The Folder/File list – a text file containing a list of all relevant folders and files (The ownership of those Files ,Folders and Sub-Folders will be changed to BUILTINAdministrators)
