I’m not going to try and set this video up – it speaks for itself. Suffice it to say that it’s a very interesting (and unexpectedly hilarious) look at what the Building Clouds team has done to make migrating from VMware to Hyper-V (and Azure) very fast and very easy. You can read more about the Migration Automation Toolkit (MAT) here.

Altaro Blog for Hyper-V & Windows Adminstrators: Resize Hyper-V VHD Disk Files with PowerShell
I’d like to think that we plan ahead and build Hyper-V virtual machines with adequate disk space. But sometimes our best plans can quickly fly out the window. Or you might have a legacy virtual machine that you can’t get rid of yet but its disk space is becoming an issue. Fortunately, this is easily remedied with the Resize-VHD cmdlet. Let me walk you through how I fixed such an issue.

Altaro Monthly Roundup: July 2013
Hopefully by now, you’ve already learned that Microsoft is planning to kill the standard and professional TechNet subscriptions. If you haven’t got a TechNet subscription, let me explain it to you: it’s the tool that millions of us use to gain access to Microsoft software in our testing environments without needing to take out a second (or third) mortgage. For a few hundred dollars per year, we gain unlimited use software that we can poke at, pry, twist, and beat into submission so that we can get a thorough understanding of the software in a safe setting. Then we can unleash our findings upon our hapless users. We can share it with you. We can write publications and include screenshots and just basically provide a lot of free advertisement for Microsoft software. Even if you don’t use TechNet subscriptions, this is a problem for everyone.

Microsoft Hyper-V Replica Explained – Part 1: Overview and benefits of using Hyper-V Replica
Even though Microsoft provides two features to achieve high availability for Hyper-V Server and Virtual Machines running on it; Quick and Live Migration technologies, both features require use of Windows Clustering components before you can have them up and running in the production environment. Windows Clustering requires the use of certified hardware, identical storage and network vendors. It not only requires the identical configuration but also experienced administrators to manage the Hyper-V clustered environment.

For years, there has been a feature battle between VMware vSphere® and Microsoft Hyper-V®. In general, vSphere has won the feature battle, although Hyper-V is certainly no slouch; the product can hold its own. Although vSphere’s superiority remains largely in place today, the feature gap will ultimately shrink and Hyper-V will become a “good enough” solution for more and more organizations. In this paper, you will be introduced to key features in both products and be exposed to the feature deltas that may exist.

Virtualization showdown: Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 vs. VMware vSphere 5.1
Any comparison of Microsoft's Hyper-V versus VMware's vSphere has to take into consideration a number of different factors. First, there's the target customer and the feature set for different sizes of deployments. The needs vary widely depending on the number of virtual machine instances, and these requirements should drive the architecture and configuration choices. Second, there is the topic of management, which is also tied closely to the size of the installation. Beyond these considerations are a number of other issues, including cost, performance, scalability, and usability.
