Expanding BYOD demands refocused IT efforts
Regardless of any doubts regarding the security or stability of the trend, bring your own device (BYOD) adoption is continuing to grow. As IT experts debate the merits and risks associated with the trend, employees are bringing their devices into the workplace and CEOs are demanding support for their iPads even as new devices hit the market. It is time for IT teams to refocus their efforts on supporting BYOD solutions and enabling secure, reliable access, rather than worrying about the potential drawbacks.
According to CSO, the question businesses must ask isn’t whether or not to adopt a BYOD solution, but how to do so in the most effective manner.
The risks associated with BYOD, which primarily focus on security, aren’t life-threatening for a company if the right steps are taken. Avoiding BYOD simply invites risk, as employees are likely to disregard company policy in favor of using their new tablets. As such, having the systems in place to ensure security – rather than allowing the consumerization of IT to happen blindly – is an enterprises only choice today. Luckily, implementing secure BYOD solutions isn’t as difficult as it may initially appear.
