Docker’s explosive expansion fueled by $40M Series C funding round
Docker, Inc. announced today that it partnered with Sequoia and raised $40 million in Series C funding. The company is behind the Docker platform, a virtual containerization system that is rapidly growing in popularity. There have now been 21 million downloads of the Docker platform, up from just 3 million in June.
With Docker’s accelerating popularity, the platform has seen multiple improvements in the past months. Late July saw Docker, Inc. acquire Orchard Laboratories, Ltd. to enhance orchestration and application composition services. The platform has also seen rapid growth with big actors in the cloud ecosystem such as Amazon, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Red Hat and VMware. Docker CEO Ben Golub spoke at length at the VMworld conference about how virtual containers fit into the technology landscape with cloud and virtualization.
