Do you fear what I fear? Thin Provisioning
Thin provision, thick provision, lazy-zeroed, thin on thick, thick on thin, eager-zeroed, thin on thin… is anyone else lost?
One thing that I have noticed recently is that despite consulting with numerous costumers and potential customers on a daily basis, they all seem to suffer from very similar challenges. You’d think that due to having drastically different sized infrastructures, operating in different verticals, and leveraging different platforms that they would all suffer from very different challenges. To be fair, each engagement certainly has some level of uniqueness to it, but I often find myself tackling the same issues time and time again.
One of the more “popular” topics that seems to come up is that of thin provisioning, or more specifically, managing the risk of thin provisioning. As if managing a virtual environment wasn’t complex enough, the idea of safely thin provisioning on top of it seems to strike fear into even the most lethal VM experts.
