Desktone Announces Support for System Center and Planned Support for Hyper-V

Desktone, Inc., provider of the first solution that enables virtual desktops as a service, today announced that the Desktone Virtual-D Platform will support System Center, including System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 (SCVMM), and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. The company also announced that it has joined the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program, an invitation-only initiative.

“We’re very pleased to be supporting System Center Virtual Machine Manager and Hyper-V. They represent cost-effective solutions that we believe will have large-scale adoption,” said Les Yetton, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development, Desktone. “Because Hyper-V runs Windows Clients on Windows Server, it’s a natural fit for our Virtual-D Platform, which enables a new form of cloud computing that preserves the rich Windows client experience.”

“By enabling SCVMM and Hyper-V in a desktops as a service environment, Desktone can make it even easier for customers to implement desktop virtualization,” Dai Vu, director of virtualization products and solutions marketing at Microsoft Corp. “We are pleased to work with Desktone to help our mutual customers more centrally manage and deploy virtual Windows desktops, and enable a dynamic, flexible environment.”

The Virtual-D Platform enables service providers to offer hosted, subscription-based virtual desktops. The only solution that integrates all desktop virtualization layers through a single, automated self-service platform, it helps enterprises quickly realize the full benefits of centralized virtual desktops without having to build and deploy the infrastructure internally. It dramatically reduces desktop TCO, transforming computing costs from fixed CAPEX to variable OPEX. And because the Virtual-D Platform is uniquely designed along two tiers (enterprise and service provider), it lets enterprises maintain ownership and control over their Windows OS images, applications and all relating licensing while outsourcing just the physical data center infrastructure powering their virtual desktops.

In addition to supporting SCVMM and Hyper-V, the Virtual-D Platform allows enterprises to combine other System Center solutions that they are already using to manage their physical desktops, specifically products like System Center Configuration Manager and Microsoft Application Virtualization (formerly SoftGrid). With support for these Microsoft technologies, and inclusion in the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program, Desktone is extending its relationship with Microsoft. The Startup Accelerator Program is designed to foster the success of high-potential software startups on the Microsoft platform. Companies are selected to join the program based on their innovation, growth potential, marketability, funding, platform decision and strategic importance to Microsoft.
