Dell: Foglight for Virtualization Free Edition Podcast – Episode 186
In episode 186, Douglas Brown interviews Mattias Sundling, Evangelist at Dell. Mattias and Douglas discuss the Dell Foglight for Virtualization Free Edition performance monitoring, capacity management, and monitoring solution. Mattias walks us through each technology, what is does, the benefits, why we should care and much more.
About Foglight for Virtualization, Free Edition
Virtualization performance, VM health, and capacity monitoring for free
Get the most out of your virtualized data center, despite configuration options and demanding workloads. Foglight for Virtualization, Free Edition helps you easily assess VM performance and VM health, as well as perform capacity monitoring. This free toolkit is comprised of six utilities that provide you with 360-degree visibility into heterogeneous virtualized environments. Simplify performance analysis on VMWare, Hyper-V, and Red Hat virtualization platforms and get insight into optimized VM Performance, orphaned snapshots, storage latency, memory limits, VM sizing and impact of infrastructure changes.
See performance and host issues across the virtual infrastructure
Evaluate host capacity environment wide
Detect inefficient datastores and VMs
View all VMs, hosts, and datastores across many vCenters and data centers on one screen
Browse for VMs, hosts, clusters, and resource pools in an environment
Generate and save advanced searches
Create search result reports in XML, CSV and PDF format
Gain visibility into all snapshots, including orphans, enabling you to avoid performance and capacity issues
Eliminate time-consuming and tedious manual snapshot tracking
Utilize advanced filters to pinpoint specific snapshots and facilitate troubleshooting
Determine critical datastore issues such as over commitment, low capacity, high latency, and VMFS version mismatch
Spot critical VM issues such as low available disk space, high latency and throughput
Sort on any metric to find issues relevant to any particular user
View all changes that occurred to datacenters, clusters, resource pools, hosts, datastores and VMs within the last seven days, with the associated risk impact
Apply filter on object name, user and type to find specific changes
See the number of changes over time to understand when they are occurring
Track critical VM configuration errors such as memory limits and old snapshots
Spot performance bottlenecks
Identify inefficiency/waste created by VMs with resource over-allocation
Uncover available capacity in terms of the number of additional VMs you can deploy
