DataCore Software Announces Shared Virtual SAN Storage for Oracle Virtual Machines Virtualisation Environments

SANmelody and SANsymphony Storage Virtualisation help customers clear pricey storage barrier to VMware, Citrix XenServer, Microsoft, Virtual Iron, and Now Oracle, Server Virtualisation

DataCore Software today announced that both its SANmelody(™) and SANsymphony(™) solutions provide shared, auto-failover, high availability, virtual SAN storage for Oracle Virtual Machines (VMs). With this announcement, the leading provider of hardware independent storage virtualisation solutions adds Oracle to the many server virtualisation flavours customers can choose from to get started with server virtualisation, supported by an affordable, DataCore(™) virtual SAN. These DataCore solutions, featuring advanced storage management, fast disk I/O performance acceleration, cost-effective thin provisioning, SANmotion data migration, remote site disaster recover (DR) and auto-recovery high availability (HA), overcome for many the high cost storage barrier to achieving server virtualisation benefits.

“Oracle VM may be free, but even that price isn’t low enough if the high cost and complexity of the SAN storage required to support it puts it right back out of reach,” said George Teixeira, president and CEO, DataCore Software Corporation. “DataCore solves that problem with storage virtualisation solutions – priced from £500 – that can run on virtually any hardware or on a VM itself, and can easily be upgraded as needed to meet customer lifecycle needs. DataCore makes it simple and affordable to achieve fault tolerant SAN data protection and high availability, a must-have to move and migrate virtual machines and protect them from the ‘many eggs in one basket’ problem inherent in server consolidation.”

DataCore storage virtualisation solutions convert standard Intel/AMD servers or virtual machines (VMs) into fully capable storage servers that virtualise disks and serve them over existing networks to application servers. They are simple to operate, take only minutes to install, and let users cost-effectively optimise, manage and protect data storage and disk space. DataCore storage virtualisation solutions are priced easily within reach of small and midsize enterprises, and scale affordably to meet the needs of even the most storage-intensive, Fortune 1000 data centres.

“Buy Only What You Need, When You Need It” – The DataCore ‘Investment Carry Forward’ Upgrade Advantage:

DataCore slashes upfront and lifecycle investment risks by allowing customers to build upon and carry forward their DataCore investment as they grow and upgrade their systems. While other vendors force the customer to buy all at once, charging high premiums for follow-on sales and upgrades, DataCore allows anyone to get started by purchasing just what their current needs dictate, and to easily upgrade as and when the need requires – without losing their existing investment or paying a premium for that luxury.

For example, a customer that starts with an entry-level SANmelody Virtual Infrastructure Foundation iSCSI SAN bundle (at around £500) can upgrade to a dual site disaster recovery or auto failover high availability solution (starting around £4,000), paying only the difference to upgrade. Later, if the customer decides to upgrade to DataCore’s large scale, enterprise storage networking solution, SANsymphony, the customer will again pay only the difference at that time.
DataCore’s Virtual Infrastructure Foundation (VIF) Acceleration Bundles range from £500 to £10,000 (UK list price), making it practical for almost any business to get started with server virtualisation backed by a DataCore virtual SAN. The packaged offerings are available from DataCore’s worldwide network of value-added resellers and include:

·         The Virtual Infrastructure Foundation (VIF) Acceleration SAN Bundle for Small Business (SMB): SANmelody-based, virtual iSCSI SAN software supporting multiple terabyte, thin provisioning storage pools, SANmotion and self-learning caching algorithms for performance acceleration – all priced from £500. A 30 day trial is available.

·         The VIF Business Continuity Acceleration BC Starter Bundle for Midsize Enterprises (SME): Includes the above features and adds to the shared storage SAN fault-tolerant, auto-failover and recovery, high availability that spans multiple sites synchronously. Pricing for software licenses range, depending on options, from £4,000 to around £8,000.

·         The VIF Disaster Recovery Acceleration DR Starter Bundle for Midsize Enterprises (SME): Asynchronous IP Mirroring and SAN pool replication that span multiple sites priced from £4,000 – £8,000.
The VIF Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Acceleration BC/DR Bundle for Midsize Enterprises (SME): Campus-wide, local, auto-failover and recovery SAN, plus long distance remote site storage replication over IP connections – priced from £8,000-£10,000. All prices are based on DataCore UK list price.
