Today App-DNA is noted as “One to Recognise” alongside Britain’s fastest-growing private technology sector companies in The Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100, a league table of Britain’s fastest-growing companies in technology, media and telecommunication (TMT). The Sunday Times notes of App-DNA “The business was demerged from its parent company Camwood (No 58 in the Tech Track 100) earlier this year and reported sales of £8.8m in the year to March. Snap out of it – fundamental change is needed to application deployment in virtual environments
Layering is the “flavor of month” it seems. There has been a steady up-tick in articles being posted about the concept so this one is no exception. But when we talk about layering,what are we really discussing? Applications, user persona or both? Are we discussing some sort of streaming technology or virtual disks? Regardless, what we are really discussing is a new layer of abstraction for virtual machines. Therefore, we must take a step back and ask ourselves where the value resides in “layering” and what would we expect to see in any solution. Currently there are several companies developing in and around this concept. Many involve the techniques I just mentioned but when we apply the premise that layering is abstraction, then the answer to the question I posed would be a solution that utilizes the underlying hypervisor and infrastructure to the fullest extent so as to eliminate variables and provide for a flexible, scalable and predictable solution

Microsoft Server Application Virtualization – It’s all about the App
At MMS 2011 this week, Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President, Management and Security Division, talked about how, with private cloud computing, it is all about application. One of the associated product announcements was the release of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 Beta. One of the features of this beta release is Microsoft Server Application Virtualization. Server Application Virtualization (or Server App-V for short) allows you to separate the application configuration and state from the underlying operating system.
