I was having a discussion recently with an IT executive from a major corporation around his expectation of virtual desktops and he made a statement that started me thinking; his business executives are requiring a six month, or sometimes less, return-on-investment (ROI) on significant IT projects, "can a virtual desktop project give me that?"

DynamicOps Integrates Virtual Resource Manager with BMC Blade Logic Ops Manager
I wrote about DynamicOps back in October when I highlighted them as one of my 2009 VMWorld vendors to watch. On Monday, DynamicOps announced that they have integrated their Virtual Resource Manager with BMC's Blade Logic Ops Manager product. DynamicOps has now increased its options in helping its customers in automating the deployment of OS images and applications in a standard and consistent manner thereby increasing agility and reducing TCO in customer environments.

It's mainly around Forrester Research's CEO George Colony who has a quest, as I do, to transform "information technology" to "business technology". George, and his team of analysts at Forrester, think that it's as simple as a name change that will help power this transformation. There were some amazing technology vendors at this year's VMworld conference. In this short article I want to share with you one of those vendors that I found to be doing the right thing at the right time. That company is Tranxition. Tranxition debuted their Adaptive Persona product at the show and I found it to be one of the best when it came to addressing the critical issue in doing virtual desktops; user personalities and related settings.

Citrix..."one must pass through knowledge and arrive at simplicity"
I wrote an article a few weeks ago about the fact that I questioned how far the Citrix message was penetrating customer organizations based on survey results that I was reading. I asked myself why is it only getting to the lower to mid-level of organizations and not really reaching the C-level where IT and business strategy are converging. In that article I referenced a survey that was done by CIO Insight that showed that the message really wasn't doing what I'm sure Citrix Marketing was hoping for. But here is where things take a really whacked out twist and it has to do with a book called Shibumi by Trevanian.
