Big Technology Signs Unidesk To Expand Desktop Virtualisation Opportunities
Big Technology, a specialist Value Added Distributor of innovative and disruptive datacentre transformation technologies, today announced the signing of fast-growing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) management company Unidesk®. Under the terms of the agreement Big Technology will distribute Unidesk’s pioneering desktop layering technology to its reseller partners, educating, enabling and energising them to take advantage of the significant and growing VDI market opportunity.
“According to Gartner, the market for physical desktop management software, called ‘client management’, is in excess of $3bn, and this market is beginning to transition to virtual desktop management with Unidesk leading the way,” commented Brian McDonough, Unidesk Vice President of Worldwide Sales. “We needed a proven distribution partner in EMEA with a strong pedigree of taking disruptive technologies to market to help resellers take advantage of this opportunity. Big Technology was the clear and obvious choice.
With a focus on next-generation compute, infrastructure, storage and virtualisation technologies, and existing relationships with Unidesk technology alliance partners Nutanix and Tegile, Big Technology is well suited to build and document VDI reference architectures that incorporate Unidesk. Unidesk’s ability to enhance VMware Horizon® View™ and Citrix XenDesktop® implementations with simple, all-inclusive desktop provisioning, application layering, image management, storage optimisation, and personalisation capabilities will enable resellers to address today’s most challenging datacentre issues in the areas of virtual desktop deployment, performance, management, cost reduction, and scalability.
Added McDonough, “We are excited to have Big Technology on board to help us showcase how Unidesk transforms the management of Windows desktops in private and public clouds at their demonstration centres.”
Commenting on the reseller opportunity Jason Dance, Managing Director, Big Technology explained, “Desktop virtualisation has been held back by management challenges that only become clear as deployments begin to scale: virtualising applications with traditional tools is slow, difficult, unreliable and expensive; too many “golden” images make patching Windows costly and resource-intensive; insufficient desktop personalisation causes end-user dissatisfaction and rejection.
“Unidesk, with its patented desktop layering technology, solves these problems with one holistic management platform. Resellers offering Unidesk with Citrix XenDesktop and VMware Horizon View can differentiate themselves with a VDI proposition that is easier and cheaper to manage at scale, can support more use cases, and can show ROI in less than 4 months.”
Unidesk is the first of a new category of desktop management software designed for the cloud. Gartner estimates that by 2016, there will be 76M hosted virtual desktops deployed using connection brokers such as Citrix XenDesktop and VMware Horizon View. Unidesk aims to be the management platform for all of them.
Big Technology will be unveiling Unidesk to its reseller partners at a special launch taking place on Thursday 26th June at 46 New Broad Street, Liverpool Street. For further information on this, please click here.
