Dominik Britz
Dominik Britz is an IT Consultant out of Cologne, Germany. I work for the company sepago which you may know from the tool “sepagoPROFILE” what’s now “Citrix Profile Management”. I’m doing Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop projects since more than six years now. Since 2015 I’m also working with the VMware End User Computing stack – View, AppVolumes, UEM, etc. At sepago we have a PowerShell framework to automate Citrix XenApp installations and I have the pleasure to be one of the developers. PowerShell has done it to me since I started to develop on the sepago framework. I don’t like the idea of doing things twice and I’m absolutely dote with automation. PowerShell is my instrument of choice because that’s the way to go today – I think you agree to me on that point. And that’s whats it’s about in my blog, bringing together PowerShell and the products I work with every day and to share this knowledge and scripts.

Export And Import Citrix XenDesktop Published Apps

Dominik Britz 0
In one of my last projects I needed an automated way to migrate published apps from a Citrix XenDesktop test site to a production site. There is no way to do so in Citrix Studio. Additionally the customer has many published apps configured with FTAs, categories and so on I was sure I would have […]

How To – Install a PowerShell Module

Dominik Britz 0
As I like to work with PowerShell modules instead of a collection of scripts, I decided to put this article up. It’s kind of a reference article for myself to not have to explain the needed steps to install a PowerShell module in various articles. Let’s begin… Basically there are two ways to install a […]

CTXLogging now with support for Citrix Receiver

Dominik Britz 0
My PowerShell module to control logging of various Citrix components is now available in version 0.2. With it comes support to control Citrix Receiver logging. Citrix Receiver is not a single piece of software. Instead it consists of multiple components. You are able to control the logging of three components: General, Authentication Manager and SelfService-PlugIn. Logging […]

CTXLogging now with support for Citrix Storefront

Dominik Britz 0
My PowerShell module to control logging of various Citrix components is now available in version 0.3. With it comes support to control Citrix Storefront tracing. If you have to troubleshoot Citrix Storefront your first stop should be the “Citrix Delivery Services” Eventlog. You will see tons of information there if something goes wrong. But if this […]

Community PowerShell Module – CTXLogging

Dominik Britz 0
When it comes to troubleshooting the communication between Citrix XenDesktop 7.x VDA and Controller you have to enable the logging of both components. Citrix once had a tool for this, the “Log Enabler Tool”. It seems that Citrix dropped the development on that tool as it is only supported for XenDesktop 5.x. Read about it here and […]

Automate Your Lab – Part 9 – MDT With Chocolatey Integration

Dominik Britz 0
As you may have noticed while reading this blogseries I like the idea of automation. It is possible to automate nearly everything in Windows with PowerShell but when it comes to automate the deployment of Windows itself you are tied to some other tools. There a are a plenty out there: Microsoft System Center Configuration […]

Automate Your Lab – Part 8 – SQL Server

Dominik Britz 0
In my lab I need a MS SQL Server for various reasons: Citrix XenDesktop, VMware Composer, VMware AppVolumes and other products. The SQL setup is quite slow and you have to wait in front of it as the installation and configuration is not separated. So I automated this nasty but needed component for my lab […]

Automate Your Lab – Part 7 – Central GPO Store

Dominik Britz 0
The central GPO store is a folder where you put in all your .admx and .adml files which then get replicated to all other domain controllers. It’s an optional part when setting up your lab. But i like the idea of centralization and storing files only one time that’s why I added it to my […]

Automate Your Lab – Part 6 – WSUS

Dominik Britz 0
I have a very slow internet connection at home and need a WSUS server in my lab to save bandwidth and time. To automate WSUS you need PowerShell and an executable. As in all my scripts in this series you can customize the installation with variables. In order to install WSUS we need only two, […]

Automate Your Lab – Part 5 – Certificate Authority

Dominik Britz 0
I need a certificate authority (CA) for several things in my labs. E.g. for a SSL secured Citrix Storefront base URL – load balanced by a Netscaler. Only a few PowerShell commands are necessary to set up an AD integrated CA with the web enrollment component. Customize your CA with variables in the script. Find the […]

Automate Your Lab – Part 4 – AD OUs, Groups And Users

Dominik Britz 0
After you created all your infrastructure services like AD, DNS and DHCP in this part of the series we are going to add “life” to your Active Directory. At the moment you have an empty AD like this: After running the script it will look like this: You can customize the structure of your AD with […]

Microsoft: Automated shortcut creation for locally installed apps via Citrix Receiver

Dominik Britz 0
In the good old times we had Citrix pnagent and with it a dead simple way to customize the start menu of our users with the apps they had access to. Things are changing with Storefront and XenDesktop 7.x. Receiver still pushes icons of the users apps into the start menu. But as apps and desktops can’t […]
