I just returned from a very full week at VMware’s VMWorld 2008 in Las Vegas and I have a slew to write about so stay tuned for much more from the show but I wanted to get this one out before Microsoft removes it.
In honor on VMware’s once a year virtualization bash Microsoft brought up a new web site where they basically slam VMware for being, what they call, too expensive, http://www.vmwarecostswaytoomuch.com/. Of course this can be argued, as I tend to believe you pay for what you get and at the same time I like to build my house on a firm foundation. So it can be argued that an initial investment in the VMware Virtualization suite can pay off in spades (no Vegas pun intended, or maybe it was…)
No matter how you see it, I found it great to see Microsoft going on the offensive especially after they let Apple walk all over them with the “PC vs. Mac” commercials. Of course I must admit I tend to find the Apple commercials to be complete fraud as I’ve never had to tape a webcam to my PC, when I upgraded my PC to Vista it worked perfectly for me but when I upgraded my iPhone it bricked for 3 hours… Nice one Apple, but I digress as I always do when I think about Apple’s ads. ;)
On http://www.vmwarecostswaytoomuch.com/ Microsoft lists a slew of reasons why to use Microsoft Virtualization vs. VMware’s solutions. Some of which are as follows:

Microsoft also posted MS Virtualization case studies, additional virtualization resources, and a few pictures from the show too.
Microsoft not only built the above site but they had people handing out $1 poker chips to VMworld attendees as they walked to the keynote. In fact, they handed out 3,800 tokens in 90 minutes but of course all 3,800 were lost in 1 minute on the casino floor. Or at least that is how it worked out for me. ;)
