HOB, Inc. today announced the newest build of its HOBLink Terminal Edition – version 5.3.1 – which now supports terminal emulation support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (Remote Desktop Services). HOBLink Terminal Edition is a modular software suite that offers enterprises terminal emulation and secure remote access to Windows applications. Since HOBLink Terminal Edition is modular, enterprises need not purchase the entire suite; instead, additional components can be added as needed.
In 1983, HOB introduced the first multi-session terminal to the market. This was followed in 1990 with the introduction of the first Windows-based 3270 terminal, which provided convenient access for PCs to host applications. “HOB has been a leading provider of terminal emulations for 30 years and we understand importance of supporting modern Windows computers with these mainframe systems. We have designed our latest product, HOBLink Terminal Edition 5.3.1, to be compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2,” explained Klaus Brandstaetter, CEO of HOB, Inc.
To ensure a user-friendly and familiar look and feel, HOBLink Terminal Edition automatically displays 3270 and 5250 applications with a graphical user interface (GUI-on-the-fly). This functionality can be turned on or off as needed—even during a running session. To reduce costs, as well as increase efficiency, the new HOBLink Terminal Edition offers run-length encoding (RLE) without the need for compression software on the host. If a HOBCOM (terminal management and printer control system) component is installed on the host, HOBLink Terminal Edition will support central printer management without a gateway. And to ensure investment protection, HOBLink Terminal Edition is fully compatible with IPv6 and Microsoft 64-bit operating systems.
With HOB Enterprise Access, administrators can centrally manage all users and configuration data. The HOBLink Secure component provides encryption for the communication data via SSH. HOBLink Terminal Edition also provides future-proofed security, as it supports IPv6 and is therefore equipped for use in upcoming network infrastructures. Additionally, HOB’s X-Server HOBLink X11enables users to work with graphic UNIX systems within Windows.
