Mobile business expert to showcase Virtual Desktop Processes technology to deliver seamless desktop functionality anytime and anywhere via smartphones and iPad devices
Mobile business expert Cortado today presented its Virtual Desktop Processes (VDP) technology at VMworld 2010 in San Francisco. VDP technology transfers desktop functions to smartphones using a display-optimized approach for BlackBerry, iPhone and Android mobile devices. Cortado is also showcasing its beta version of Cortado Workplace for iPad as well as Cortado Corporate Server for iPad, slated for availability late Q3 2010.
Cortado Corporate Server enables the easy integration of BlackBerry, iPhone, Android smartphone devices and soon the Apple iPad into corporate IT. Smartphone users can access network documents, copy and paste files to other folders and create PDFs and faxes, as well as access database reports. An integrated cloud printing system allows documents to be printed on network printers or on any printer located in the same Wi-Fi network as the smartphone.
The Cortado Workplace solution for the individual user offers iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and soon iPad users 1 GB of online storage, plus useful file management features. With cloud printing, saved documents can be printed on any printer connected to a Wi-Fi network or a Bluetooth printer. The new Cortado Workplace for iPad app, which will be available late Q3 2010, is Cortado’s free desktop application for the iPad, transforming Apple’s tablet into a fully functional desktop. This is achieved through Cortado Workplace enhancing the iPad office apps and enabling cloud printing. For example, with Cortado Workplace, a user can receive a keynote presentation via e-mail and then easily save the presentation to the Workplace online storage. This document can then be edited, printed or even presented via a VGA adapter anytime, anywhere.
Another example: a letter created in Pages can be sent to Workplace as a doc file and then printed on any printer located in the Wi-Fi network. And, with Airport Express, a Wi-Fi network can be created very quickly.
“As more executives use the iPad in the workplace, we are thrilled to integrate iPads into corporate IT and to bring users desktop functionality and the ability to print,” said Thorsten Hesse, innovative products manager at ThinPrint and Cortado. “In the near future we will additionally support other tablets such as those running the Android operating system.”
