Just over a year ago, Symantec established the Endpoint Virtualization Group, bringing together technologies from Altiris, AppStream and Nsuite under one umbrella with the goals of giving users a flexible rich desktop experience, while keeping a handle on costs and enhancing control of the desktop environment. With all the right components in place, the Symantec Endpoint Virtualization Suite (EVS) is becoming a compelling option for enhancing virtual and traditional desktop implementations.
Not to be confused with the client side hypervisor initiatives from
Citrix (
XenClient) or
VMware (vClient), this technology is best described as a workspace management solution. EVS virtualizes the endpoint, providing users a common desktop experience regardless of whether they use a rich (fat) client, thin client, or web browser.
