APPSENSE INTRODUCES ENVIRONMENT MANAGER FOR VMWARE VIRTUAL DESKTOPS
EMB America Using AppSense and VMware Platform to Enhance Policy and Personalization Management
AppSense Ltd., the leading provider of user environment management solutions for large-scale environments, today announced Environment Manager 8.0 for VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), bringing industrial-strength policy and personalization capabilities to VMware VDI customers.
AppSense Environment Manager 8.0 complements VMware VDI environments by enabling desktop policy and personalization management from a single solution. By dynamically personalizing the user environment on-demand and enabling a one-to-many, pooled VDI, AppSense Environment Manager 8.0 helps accelerate and simplify enterprise migration and management of VMware VDI environments, and significantly reduces enterprise storage and infrastructure costs.
"VMware has been working closely with AppSense for many years, and we are delighted to continue our relationship as VMware VDI implementations accelerate," said Jeff Jennings, Vice President of Desktop Products and Solutions at VMware. “Through our collaboration with partners such as AppSense, customers can further improve the cost-effectiveness and manageability of VMware virtual desktops.”
AppSense and VMware have a number of joint customers, including San Diego-based EMB America, actuarial consultants specializing in property and casualty insurance. “Through VMware VDI, users connect into virtual machines. Users don’t necessarily know which machine they are connecting into and they really don’t need to know, because we have standardized these desktops. That was the big push for AppSense products. In order to provide a normal desktop experience, we would have had to reset user profiles and settings on each machine every time they logged in – a huge waste of time.” says Greg Matuskovic, IT Director for EMB America. “With AppSense, everyone now has a consistent and personal experience across all pooled machines without extensive IT burden. All our users are happy and more productive. We now run AppSense on all the virtual machines we have.”
With AppSense Environment Manager 8.0, enterprises can further realize the promise of their VMware VDI environments. By separating user data from the desktop and applying this data on-demand, management and storage costs are reduced by removing the need to treat each environment as a unique entity.
"Virtual desktop implementations today are mainly focused on the management and delivery of the OS and application, but without user acceptance, these implementations will not scale,” states Tony Bolland, VP Alliances, AppSense. “VMware delivers the virtual infrastructure and AppSense delivers the user component for a combined solution that can readily scale. This combination provides a compelling solution to this new desktop delivery paradigm.”
