Akanda Names Mark McClain Chief Technology Officer
Akanda, the first production-ready open source network services virtualization platform, today announced Mark McClain as founding Chief Technology Officer. As CTO, McClain will lead the technical vision and development team for Akanda, and be chief community evangelist for engaging with new contributors and developing broad community support for the open source project.
An industry veteran with over 14 years of experience in software development, McClain joins Akanda from his former position as Senior Principal Architect at Yahoo! where he contributed to the strategic planning and architecture expansion of the company’s OpenStack platform implementations. Prior to Yahoo!, McClain held Senior Developer positions at DreamHost, Pictage and SignPost Networks. McClain is also a member of the OpenStack Technical Committee and currently a core member of OpenStack Neutron.
“With deep roots in the open source community, Mark’s extensive experience in OpenStack software development and his knowledge of the cloud computing industry is truly impressive. His accomplishments within the OpenStack community are only a small glimpse of his incredible talent,” said Henrik Rosendahl, CEO of Akanda. “We are thrilled to welcome Mark as CTO of Akanda and are confident that his experience and technical vision will enable Akanda to thrive in the Software Defined Networking (SDN) market.”
Recently emerging from stealth at the OpenStack Summit in Paris, Akanda has begun revolutionizing the network virtualization industry, delivering the first open source production-ready platform for network services virtualization. The company’s platform fills the Layer 3+ services gap in OpenStack SDN and will support a diversity of Layer 2 overlays, meeting the needs of cloud service providers and enterprise private clouds. Akanda delivers on the promise of an open, extensible, and cost-effective network virtualization platform to accelerate the implementation of public and private clouds worldwide.
“As a champion and longtime supporter of open source technology, I am thrilled to join a team that shares the commitment and common goal of rapidly broadening the open source network virtualization options available to service providers and enterprises,” said McClain. “Akanda has developed a truly unique core technology that brings valuable new capabilities into the SDN and NFV ecosystem, and I look forward to leading technical innovation.”
